Here are a couple of pics from the actual day, there will be more of his party with school friends. Daddy has the memory card for that and is out of town...

G got a "fishing" bow for shooting carp on the river, some awesome Avatar figures, money, clothes, Legos...all the things little boys love.

#2 & #3 each got a fishing pole of their very own from Pop-pop and Beppe. You can see how much fun I had practicing in the pool!

We visited the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills...this is a great free little sightseeing diversion. It is a 55 room home with beautiful grounds. They were actually setting up for a wedding when we were there. It now belongs to the Parks & Rec/State Parks department and though you can't go in the home, you can see some cool architectual elements as well as the grounds with water features, etc. There were a ton of turtles in the ponds. It would be a great place to take a picnic lunch and spend a couple of hours.

These lovely ladies were visiting from Japan and their mom asked (interpreted through their tour guide) if our kids would be in a picture with them. She was very curious as to how old our boys were; I think her oldest was a bit younger than #1.

A Working Vacation with Jeff

Jeff had to miss quite a bit of the boys 2 week spring break due to the big project at Calabasas. So we decided to take everyone down for a few days to enjoy some sun and change of scenery. The night before we left, I spent the evening in the ER with #3 who broke his arm so you'll see his splint in the pictures. We came from cold yucky weather to nearly 80 degrees so we were loving the shorts time! You can even see some sweat on the kids. :) We ate at Carney's in LA; I think they have two locations and we were at the N. Hollywood one. Awesome hot dogs, per Jeff. I had a yummy wrap thing. I'll have to hunt down the pictures we took at the beach in Malibu.

We hosted our company's Christmas party here on Saturday night...we had a bout 26 people and it was nice. It also forced me to finish up the Christmas decorations early this year! This morning we woke up to a couple inches of snow on the ground. The boys were so excited! Snow definitely helps bring about the Christmas Spirit!

Caleb's 6th Birthday

Caleb was lucky enough to have 3 birthdays! An early one with Frompa & Grammy in late October, one whenb Pop-Pop and Beppe visited in the middle of November, and two little buddies from school over on his actual birthday. I guess that's one upside for the kids living away from the majority of family!

The Fall

Wow, I can't believe it's been two months since I've posted. This has been a very busy fall...we've been going non-stop since October! Now it's December and JTS has slowed a bit and all our parties and engagements are over until Christmas. Time to hunker down and finish up some of my projects!

Here are some fun pictures that Jeff took back in October. The boys look like they're being helpful by raking leaves, but all they do is rake them into a pile and then jump off the chair into them! It looks so warm in these pictures; it's currently 18 F and snowing! I hope to post other happenings in the following weeks to get the blog caught up a bit. Until then...

Lemonade Stand

A few weeks ago, the boys begged me to let them do a lemonade stand. I capitulated and boy, was it successful! They ended up making $22 even after paying me for supplies (gotta teach them the real world!) They've been wanting to do it again, but time hasn't allowed. I have a feeling we'll be doing a couple next summer...fall is here and the days are cooling down. They had a blast and did a very good job!

We visited Park City this weekend and had a nice time. Our room was fantastic and we had the added bonus of getting to visit with my Aunt and Uncle who live in Salt Lake City. We usually only see them at Christmas time so it was fun to be able to visit with them! The weather was perfect and it was nice to get away for a couple days and see some new territory!

Here are the boys waiting for the bus...it comes bright and early at 6:39 a.m. Nothing like getting up in the dark. It goes against my very nature, but it sure does make for a more productive day!

#1 is really enjoying his 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Calley. Who wouldn't? She gives out candy before the tests! And #2 is getting to know new friends in Kindergarten with Mrs. May. He loves riding the bus with big brother.

Boys Only Adventure Day

A few months back, Jeff was having a hankering to get outdoors. I had a ton of errands I needed to do so they boys took an afternoon trip without mom. They went out to Succor Creek State Park (I think it's actually in Oregon.)

They had a blast checking out some trails and being boys...Jeff got these great pictures of them. We'll probably try to go camping here in the fall; too many rattlers during the heat!

Well, we held off on G's birthday party until the last day of school so we could have a "Pirate Pool Party"! 15 eight year olds for 4 hours is enough to cure me of birthday parties! Ian had fun being the center of attention. And he enjoyed finding left over pieces of cake on the tables!

Our first 70 degree day came along and we had the bug to work outside. It ended up being "clean out the waterfall" day.

#1 used some mud to look like a professional NFL player. He's going to play football for the first time in September.

These are what we call "Pake Toes" in our family. Like fat little sausages. I hate my feet. Notice the mud, though? I was working hard!

#2 excited about using the pooper scooper. This dog does not like to poop in the pasture like her predecessors. The joy of the pooper scooper wore of quickly.

We had the far neighbors over for Glenda's and Garrett's birthday on Sunday. B#3 and Andy were out giving Isabelle some love. Now we know who can dog sit when we leave town! Or maybe who to leave #3 with! He kept going to Andy all day. As quoted by himself, "something must be wrong with this kid if he comes to me!"

My Pake's Gone Home...

...and although expected, an incredible sense of loss is with the family. For those of you unaware, my Pake was my mom's father. After many years of Parkinson's, the hard decision was made to place him at Silverado Senior Facility about 5 weeks ago. He contracted pneumonia on Monday morning and passed away on Tuesday afternoon surrounded by most of our family. It was difficult to be in Idaho when I so wanted to be with the rest of my family; to connect with them while remembering and mourning our loss. It's amazing the incredible need to be with family at these times. Well the five of us are all in Escondido now; trying to help where we can. Too bad these things can't be planned; this was a tough time to get away. Jeff is incredibly busy right now, the kids have all been sick and my parents are at the tail end of moving out of their house that they'll close escrow on in about a week. But on the plus side, I'll get to see my new little nephew Quinn (See Bether's Blog on the links) who I didn't think I'd get to see until June!

And the best news is we know that Pake is enjoying his time in his eternal home. No more pain, no more confusion. We will miss him immensely as we live out our days on this earth and look forward to seeing him again!

I am secretly (actually, not secretly now) thrilled that I don't have to do the soccer thing this morning!! Yeah. But the downside is that B2 has a fever; again. I just don't think they're kicking whatever bug is hanging around. I feel like we've been sick since Christmas.

But I'm relishing a baby in bed and some time to fold laundry. B2 was watching America's Funniest Home Videos and must have seen a clip with a bald person. "Mom," he asked, "when bald people are in the shower, do they still have to wash their hair?"

Hee, hee. Gotta love five year olds.

Meet Isabelle...

Being that #2 is such an animal lover, we have contemplated acquiring a new four-legged friend of the canine variety. And last Friday we found this cutie at the animal shelter. And, since she was on sale (did you know that shelters sometimes have specials on certain breeds? Isn't that funny?) we couldn't pass her up. I can NEVER pass up a good sale! They named her Isabelle, but we've taken to calling her Izzy. They thought she was a border collie/daschund mix. She is about one year old and so far so good! She doesn't bark, she loves sticking by us, doesn't beg for food and she has been very patient with #3 "petting" her; which has consisted of poking eyes and pulling eyebrows, as well as whiskers! Only problem is she wants to cuddle ALL the time! The boys are having a lot of fun with her.

We've been enjoying some warmer weather over the last few days. It was up in the high 50's yesterday! We got some much needed yard work done on Saturday and plan on doing some tumbleweed wrangling this weekend if the wind holds off and the weather stays nice. I'm really looking forward to the time change and Spring!

Being as we are not huge football fans, and the teams were not very exciting, Jeff decided we were going to have family day at Bogus. It was "free" because 2 years ago I put a chunk of money on a Bogus Bucks account because they were having a huge sale. We looked into their childcare for Ian and decided that we'd check him in and the four of us would ski/snowboard. We got the kids their first lesson and went to check Ian in and found out that the childcare was CLOSED for the day due to the Winter Special Olympics! So mom got to hang out for an hour and 45 minutes during lessons! At least I caught a couple pictures. The boys had a blast and are looking forward to going again. And I'm looking forward to actually going skiing next time. It's been a while, so pray I don't hurt myself! :)

We've been educating the boys on some classic music...good 70's rock, 80's, and 90's alternative stuff. They have been having fun with it... BO#3 loves dancing with us. So one day, BO#1 says "Wait! I'll be right back!" and comes back with this concoction. I have to give him kudos on originality here. One coloring book, 2 sword scabbards and a little tape made for a great "rockin' out" prop. He's going to hate this picture in a few years! :) Good blackmail material for mom & dad!

Sesame St. Live... Elmo Makes Music

Who'd have ever thought 10 years ago that our Friday night excitement would be taking the kids to Sesame St. Live? But alas, it's true. And I have to admit it was fun. Sadly, I could sing along with most of the songs.

We decided that this would be fun to do for #3's 1st birthday since we don't have a lot of family around to do a party. The best, of course, was seeing the boys' faces. Especially #2 & #3. #1 was trying to act like it wasn't cool...but I caught him dancing and smiling most of the time! :) Little man was so funny wigglin' around to the music. And Tibbers (by the way, he's informed us he doesn't want to be called that anymore!! Oh no, is he growing up?!) had a pasted on amazed smile. It was waaayyy past little one's bedtime by the time it was over, but he held on and I'd say it was money well spent. The best part is that we got the $26 tickets on presale for only $13! I would recommend it for preschool age kids for sure.

As a minor gripe, I was very ticked off when the event staff lady came and told me that I couldn't use a camera with a detachable lens! What the hay? Anyone have any idea why that would matter? I specifically read the website and it said you could take still photos but no sound or video recording. So I was a little perturbed. Good thing I'd been clicking away early on or I'd have no pictures!

Turkey Day Highlights

We had our first Thanksgiving on our own this year; and though it was quiet, it was very nice. Great food and we had a few minutes before the meal to list some of the things we were most thankful for. Jeff used our new Orion Smoker (very awesome) to smoke the turkey. It's very quick and the flavor is excellent. I can't find the pictures of the the boys centerpiece creations (hoping I didn't accidently delete them!), but they helped me decorate the table. We missed getting a picture of Caleb during dinner, but hopefully he won't hold it agains us later in life. Overall it was a nice day!

Didn't get the best shots here, but you'll get the idea. Long and shaggy in #1, psuedo military in #2. Two days after the cut, his hair was standing straight up again. And those cowlicks in the back sure stand out! But at least he won't have horrible bed head again for a while! He did really well; other than wanting to keep turning his head, he didn't cry or whine a bit!

Caleb's Birthday Party

I'm playing a bit of catch-up here...sorry! This is only 3 weeks late! :) Caleb had 2 boys from preschool, and Garrett got to invite a family friend to an Army themed birthday party. We had a great time...Jeff created a basic training course for them in the back yard and then they rode on the quad trailer on manuevers to get 'bad guys'. I think it was a hit! He enjoyed his gifts from all...but the highlight was his Nintendo DS that was a group effort from various family members pitching in. So thanks everyone... now to post some other recent highlights!

A "Boy" Day

I had a continuing education class I needed to take last week, so Daddy took the day off to stay home with the boys. They had fun fixing up their fort to include this lovely sage green tarp for its roof, as well as moving in a workbench for their "bar" (wonder who gave them that idea?! Jeff says they came up with it all by themselves!) Then they spent some time rough-housing with Chuck in the pasture. #3 even got in on the fun!

A Beautiful Day for Soccer

Well, BO#2 had his FIRST ever soccer game yesterday! He did great! He's one of the youngest (though not the smallest) kids on the team but he didn't look like it on the field! He really goes after the ball and doesn't back down. We were a little concerned after his first practice; he kept falling down for theatrical purposes, but didn't do it at all for the game. We had one lost cleat episode. I guess big brother's cleats are a little too big still :) The team named themselves the Green Dragons. Gotta love little boys!

BO#1 had his first game of the season yesterday too. Unfortunately, both boys have their games at the same time so daddy has to miss BO#2's games since he's coaching BO#1. But the Tiger's (3rd picture) did great too! BO#1 wanted to name their team the Cheetos! Both boys have a pretty natural knack for the game...wonder who they get that from? Daddy, maybe?

I fear I've become a dreaded soccer mom. I've been roped into serving on the soccer board and running the league fundraiser. Not to mention 6 more weeks of twice weekly practices and Saturday morning games....cross your fingers that the weather stays nice through the end of October and I don't lose my marbles in the meantime!

Here's some fun shots of BO#3 enjoying some crackers...oh how I love that he can feed himself! The boy said sayonara to baby food long ago. His favorites? Mini babybel cheeses, graham crackers, top ramen, grapes, mandarin oranges, peaches and lunchmeat. We figured out long ago that he loves salty/spiced food. I had to put the kabosh on daddy feeding him the top ramen; I think he drank a gallon of juice after the saltiness of that meal! Don't you love the squinty eye look? That was a favorite expression over the last couple of weeks. Too cute!

This isn't a very good quality picture, but it was too cute with that big grin. We gave him strawberries (the boat creates a nice catch all so they don't fall!) and let him gnaw away. He LOVES strawberries! Jeff has finally gotten him used to the pool on his own. We always had to hold him before. Now he gets to float around and watch all the shenanigans going on around him.

Indiana Johnson

The boys have been a bit obsessed with Indiana Jones...so much so that they are constantly humming the theme song. Dundundundun, dundundun, dundundundun, dun du du dun dun...I have been humming it constantly too! Anyhow, Frompa sent them some fun "back to school" suprises which consisted of an Indiana Jones signature satchel and hat. BO#1 uses his button up dress shirt, a belt as a whip and creates adventures about the yard. In these pictures, Jeff caught him "accidently" falling into the pool with all his clothes on! While he was there, he thought it the perfect opportunity to act out the scene when Harrison Ford jumps into the river to catch the plane in Raiders of the Lost Ark. All I can say is Oy Vey. I guess you could say that he gets the movie bug from his dad. I must admit he makes a good Indi...and he's got the outfit down to a T!

Ah, the sound is quiet! This is BO1's first day of 2nd Grade and I was up at 6:30 (ouch, it's been a while!) and have enjoyed almost 2 hours without children awake. That's been nearly unheard of the past 2 months! We had Open House on Monday night and he's been excited. And none too soon. He has been a bit of a bear this summer. I think that kid needs structure. For 2 weeks now he's been telling us "I'm kind of excited for school to start, but kind of not." And I know how he feels. I'm excited for the return of some routine (and some peace and quiet!) but I'll miss the freeform days of summer. Countdown to Sept. 2nd for BO2 to start Pre-K classes in the morning! Then only 5 more years until BO3 starts! :)

Summer Finally Came to Idaho!

Daddy got to pick what he wanted to do on Father's Day and since we finally have nice weather we went to a couple of local spots we've been wanting to check out. We went to Jump Creek; it was a short hike perfect for the kids. There were a lot of people, so we didn't stay long. We had a nice picnic by the creek and afterwards went to a local hot spring on the road to the Owyhee Reservoir...and again, too many people, but still a nice afternoon! I found one of the classic "Johnny Jump Up"s at the children's resale store. He likes it quite a bit! It usually only lasts for a few minutes, but he really enjoys it...big brothers bob up and down with him, chanting "jump, jump, jump" and I think he likes being the center of attention. This was taken a couple of weeks ago...but with the boys home everyday I don't have as much time to get things done! I had to remind myself of my happy baby because he's been grumpy for the past few days. He's either seen a return of the double ear infection or those top teeth that are bulging out are getting to him. :(

Our friend M.H. came over Friday to help BO1 celebrate his 7th (wow, already?) birthday. We went to Fuddruckers to eat and then they wore themselves out at Planet Kid in Boise (imagine a huge Carl's Jr. playground.) M.H. spent the night and this was the excitement of Saturday...the long anticipated "Camo Face Paint".

An Apology to my Parents

I now know why parents are saints...all soccer/baseball/football/whatever parents. I swear that the coldest time of year in Idaho isn't Winter; it's soccer season. Just imagine 40 some degrees with gusting winds. You can see the people bundled up in the pictures. You can also see how terrible these pictures are. You wanna know why? Because I thankfully had the excuse of a five-month old baby to take myself (and said child, along with BO2) to the car in order to avoid frostbite. Thank goodness my camera has a 10x zoom, cuz I used it. Now that you know the conditions in which they were taken, not too bad, huh? Now mind you, my parents didn't have to watch any outdoor recreational sports in a cold climate...but I still appreciate the effort that it was. So thanks Mom & Dad...
And on another note, well, really a confession of sorts; I don't have better pictures because I only remembered to take my camera to the last game! Gasp! I wasn't raised in a picture-happy family (like some people I know...er, Grammy!) The only real picture taking that went on around my family was when Grandpa cut our heads off with the Polaroid on Holidays. So it's a real battle to not only remember to take the camera along, but to use the darn thing.
Enough about me, :), on to BO1 and this soccer thing! He played great this year. It was really fun to see some of the basic skills "click" with him. He particularly enjoyed playing defender and did a great job. He is very aggressive getting after the ball. Maybe he'll take after his dad and play goalie! The second picture is a great shot of him staying limber during the game...and also the excellent coach. Pic #3...self explanatory...it was cold!

Remember what I said about the Legos on the floor? Good thing this was a big one! These were taken a day or two after the first.

I especially like the third picture because it is a great shot of his beautiful head of hair; and the blasted cowlicks that will haunt him for life. Not to mention haunting me; they are going to be a booger when it comes to hair cuts and "styling"...yep, even the little boys style their hair in this house. BO2 just likes "spiky hair" (especially the way Aunt Amy did it), but BO1 is entering the vanity stage of life...so sad how quickly looking cool becomes important in a child's life! :)

Bread and More Bread

We were having some family over for dinner on Saturday night for a birthday celebration...and in my typical "over doing it" way, I couldn't just make one loaf of bread. Nope. The fear of having it not turn out well forced me into making 2 types. The left two are just a yummy white bread recipe, the far right is a great Farmhouse Pumpernickel. Did you know that cocoa powder is an ingredient in pumpernickel...I learn something new everyday! The little roll was white bread dough given to BO2 to make his own...they always like handling the doughs when I bake. The smaller loaf in the upper right corner is a sourdough loaf I made the day before. I used an "Easy Sourdough Starter" recipe with not the best results. The bread tasted good, but it took a FULL DAY for the bread to rise after shaping! I'm sure I did something wrong! And I know my yeast is good, because the other loaves rose perfectly. Oh well, guess I'll have to try a Not-so-easy starter recipe. Anyone have a good one?

Two Chompers

Well, in a span of about 2 weeks we've seen the arrival of BO3's first two bottom teeth! The first was tough, but #2 seemed to be easier on him. Nothing that a few doses of baby pain-reliever can't cure :) It's hard to see the second tooth in this picture, but it's there...have you ever tried to take a picture of a baby's tooth? It's harder than you think! Other than that excitement, we've been busy as usual. Hubby was gone to Holland for 8 days for a business trip; luckily Beppe came to stay with us to help with the hectic week. We finished stripping wallpaper in both boys' rooms and she helped by painting BO1 & BO2's room an "ARMY" color. I'll post pictures later (gotta finish the camaflouge curtains first!) Hubby's off tomorrow for another 2 day/1 night trip for work. This time to CA. Another week of soccer and swimming lessons to look forward to! Oh, and a Pampered Chef party I'm hosting on Friday night! That should be fun...food, drink, friends. Good way to spend an evening!

I did this with raw edges to have the frayed affect after washing...but since I didn't have seams the bib came out a bit too big! But they were really cute models, so I couldn't resist a picture!

We have some friends who were blessed with an available baby girl for adoption on INCREDIBLY short notice...can you say hours?! I had seen this tutorial for cute burp cloths and had the opportunity to make girly ones! Haven't made any for BO3 yet. By the time I get to it for him he'll be done spitting up!

The bibs were something I'd seen on-line and then again at a local retail store whose logo happens to contain a red circle. I thought they were fun so I picked out some pretty non-baby fabric and sewed into the wee hours one night. I think they came out cute considering I am NOT a seamstress. I like anything with straight lines!

I love my pressure cooker. I think EVERYONE should have one; well not just have one, but use one. I created this recipe by tweaking a couple I found on-line. It's for Mexican Shredded Beef. And not the typical kind. I'd like to think it is a "New Mexico" style shredded beef. It was really good! And, there were lots of leftovers to make additional meals. The first night we had tacos/burritos. (Just depends in how you fold 'em!) Then I made enchiladas for another meal. And I wanted to make a soup with the rest. Just didn't get to it yet. My plan was to make something like Chicken Tortilla soup...but with this shredded beef instead. I'll work on that. If you have any recipe ideas, I'd love to hear them! Here's the recipe I used....

Mexican Shredded Beef

4-5 lbs chuck roast (or any other roast)
2 med onions, chopped
2 4 oz cans chopped green chiles (more or less to your liking)
1/2 cup green taco sauce
1 cup salsa
3 Tbsp hot chili sauce (omit or add more to your liking...my husband likes insanely hot things so I add some for him!)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp coriander
1 Tbsp salt
1 tsp chili powder
1-2 cups water

Brown meat in pressure cooker or stovetop. Meanwhile mix ingredients together. Add meet to cooker, cover with mixture and additional water to cover meet. (Careful not to overfill your cooker!) Cook on high pressure for 50-60 minutes.

I cut the roast in half and did it in 2 batches because my pressure cooker is small (but electric and I love it!) You can do a smaller batch, but I wouldn't decrease the ingredients, probably just the water. Hope you like it!

Shredded Beef Enchiladas

I went VERY easy on this...but you can certainly make your own enchilada sauce.

Tortillas, cheese, meat, olives, canned red enchilada sauce.

I think you know the drill. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30-40 minutes. Sorry, I didn't take pictures of this, but they were good!

I served both of these meals with refried beans made from scratch (with the pressure cooker!) I used Miss Vickie's Pressure Cooker Recipes to come up with dried bean cooking times. I printed all the cooking time charts and put them in my recipe binder. It's been very helpful. The pressure cooker is such a great time saver!

Warm Baby

Sounds like a song title...heck, maybe it is a song title! I wasn't looking forward to doing the Monday morning task of starting one of at least four loads of laundry waiting for me. And I need #3 asleep to get to doing my taxes, so I was trying to sneak a few minutes to blog a couple of pics I'd been wanting to post. I put #3 in his activity seat thingy. It didn't go as well as it usually does. I can generally get 10-15 minutes out of it; but not this morning. I became enthralled watching him try to put the attached toys into his mouth. This is a frustrating phase. He can't hold anything long enough to really "check it out" with his mouth...and the thing he can hold onto won't reach his mouth! What kind of mother am I that I can watch him and take pictures instead of rescuing him? The same kind of mother that types away while he fusses...but hey, I've tried to feed him and the kid won't take a pacifier to go to sleep, so what's a mom to do? I guess neither of us are thrilled with this Monday morning!

Thanks to my SIL Bether I have discovered a blog that is funny and evil. The Pioneer Woman has a Pioneer Woman Cooks blog with down home recipes. I saw this one yesterday (I have a lot of dead time while #3 is in his parasitic mode) and decided I had the few minutes it would take to whip it together. I stopped off at the store after picking up #1 from school because I didn't have Granny Smith apples...a little too tart to eat for my taste. And what self-respecting parent has Mt. Dew on hand? Just kidding, hope I didn't offend anyone. But the bi-product of this unlikely ingredient is naughty. Hubby and I only let the kids have one so we could have the rest for ourselves. We had them for dessert, and then dessert to dessert. Do you see the bottom of the pan. They aren't tongue marks, but they could be. That's how good it is. Then we had it for breakfast dessert this morning. Bad. This is what's left of a 9x13. Sad. Not good for the after-baby diet. Neither was the Corned Beef & Cabbage that Jeff wanted for dinner. But all that will have to be another blogpost.

Things I Learned at Cal Poly

I know this Post from Pioneer Woman is uber-old, but it makes me think fondly of my days in college. Now clean up your dirty thoughts...it's nothing kinky. My dairy science Artificial Insemination class was quite the riot. I've had my arm in a cow just like PW's picture. It is a sensation you never forget. The cow probably doesn't either. And during the winter months, it's strangely warm and comforting. Your arm comes out steaming; covered in poo and steaming. My mom enjoyed telling EVERYONE about that class. Didn't care about the others but the "arm up a cow's butt" class was widely discussed. Being that the class discussed all manner of reproduction, the study group was a riot. It was hard to keep it serious when you're talking about bulls and cows and teasers and artificial vaginas. I think Marjeuh and I threw away our AI clothes... there's not getting those stains out! And Lnthomps couldn't stand our smell when we came home from lab day. Fun memories!

We cracked up at this. I had just been at the doctor for BO2's & BO3's shots, as evidenced by the sucker sticking out of BO2's mouth. I had purchased this Batman helmet the day before at Goodwill and he insisted on wearing it. Thankfully he took it off before we went to the Dr.'s office. I think the shots took a bit out of him. I noticed it was quiet on the way home and turned around to find this! I called daddy as I pulled into the driveway so he could bring the camera; this was definitely a Kodak moment.

We've had a few baths in the baby tub and aside from the screams when he's lifted in or out, he likes it! The boys helped me one day...they both had to have a turn with the washcloth. And in the interest of decency, we placed the washcloth over his parts for this picture. He's really chunking out. And his eyelashes are starting to fill in. Let's hope he gets killer eyelashes like BO2 (birth order #2).

Clean Baby

We've been taking him into the shower with us for cleaning purposes...no matter the method he's usually quite unhappy the whole time! But he didn't do too bad here. Snow Day!!

Global Warming??? We just had 4-6 inches of snow...locals say the most our area has had at once in 10 years! The boys had a blast sledding...and yesterday most of the area schools were closed due to road conditions. It was a bit of a mess out! Most of it is melted already, but there's still white in a lot of places. Jeff and Garrett are looking forward to hitting the slopes this weekend.

Ian at One Week Old

So Jeff says this morning, "baby number 3 gets the best baby award!" I don't want to jinx anything...but he'll sleep in his cradle for good stretches (especially at night), only seems to cry when he wakes up and wants to eat, and his gas issues don't seem unbearable. Though after our pasta dinner the other night, I don't think excessive garlic and onions will be on my menu real soon. He weighed 7lb. 11oz. at the Dr. yesterday, so he's 3 oz. above his birthweight. We'll see what he is at his 2 week check up next Wednesday.

Big brothers are still nice to him. Garrett keeps saying "He's so cute!" and gives him lots of kisses. Caleb likes to give him blankets and stuffed animals all the time. Hopefully they won't get tired of him just yet!

Fall Treat Recipe

I found this fun treat recipe in the Dr.'s office for these corn pop "rice krispy treat" type things. Of course, I didn't have the recipe at home and I couldn't find it on Family Fun's website, so I decided to wing it. Due to the affects of late pregnancy I forgot the key ingredient of butter before melting the marshmallows...soooo...they didn't taste very good. Maybe it was the corn pops we didn't like. But either way, they were VERY cute to look at. And we might try them again using the correct ingredients and maybe some different cereal. But the boys had fun shaping them and eating the fruit leather "husk". I know I'm admitting to some domestic inadequacies here, but it was a fun idea :)!

Halloween Night

Labor Day Weekend in Seattle

We had some plans to go to McCall for the weekend, but things fell through so we made a quick weekend trip to visit one of the Pacific Northwest locations we've been wanting to see since we moved to Idaho. Seattle is a fun town with lots to do. We stayed downtown (thanks to Priceline!) and were able to walk or take the bus or monorail everywhere. We visited the Aquarium, Pike Place Market (Caleb loved the "fish toss"), Pacific Science Center and we took a one-hour bay cruise. We were all worn out but it was well worth it. It's a beautiful area! It was fun to be in a bigger city again...there are Starbucks on every block (LITERALLY!) so Jeff was thrilled. We went to a great Vietnamese restaurant and bought a tasty picnic lunch at the Italian Deli in Pike's. Sadly, the seafood restaurant we tried was a tourist trap we suspect, and it was very disappointing. I've had better seafood in Idaho! We're looking forward to heading there again! For anyone visiting Seattle, or any other larger city, I definitely suggest looking into buying the Citypass or GoCard. If you're doing the typical "tourist" stuff, you can easily save 25-40% off admissions. Look into it!
And if you're wondering what the deal is with the pigs in the pictures, go to http://www.pigsonparade.org/ . The kids had fun finding the pigs on the city streets...we didn't get a picture of the "Pirate Pig" (Caleb's favorite) but we liked this "Salmon Pig" a lot!

Day at Disneyland

Here are the pictures of our day at Disneyland...this was Caleb's first trip and Garrett's second. Caleb didn't enjoy any of the "fun" rides; he had his hands over his eyes during the Matterhorn and got a bit scared on Star Tours and Pirates! You'll also notice he's missing from the picture with Mickey...and think the big mouse was a bit intimidating! But Garrett loved 'em all! He went twice on Big Thunder Mtn. What a blast that one is! It was a great day...not too many people (it was a Monday) and the boys were troopers. We were in the gates at 10 am and didn't leave until 9 pm. Caleb didn't even stay awake until we hit the freeway!

I think the 16 lb carp would have pulled him into the water if we hadn't been close to help. It took about 15 minutes (with lots of help from Pop-pop) to reel him in. The smaller fish was a great 3.5 lb bass that was quite tasty!

Spring Fever in Idaho!

We've got it. You gotta love Idaho...we have snow three weeks later it's 75F and the boys are in the pool! Garrett's been trying his hand at bike riding without his training wheels. Not too good yet; but mostly because he only tries a couple of times before he gets frustrated and stomps off! Oh, childhood is so rough! You can see Caleb enjoying the warm weather sporting his new spring wardrobe choice--no shirt, no shoes, no problem (at our house anyway!) I'm expecting cooler temperatures any minute. We've had record highs for this time of year, but until it cools again I'm going to enjoy it!

The boys have a new little sister!

After a much anticipated arrival, we announce the birth of Goaty Johnson. AKA Miss Pim or Whitey. Although she is not human, we may as well have had a baby. The mother rejected her (Animals are soo dumb) so we are having to bottle feed her. But she is so cute! She follows you around like a dog. She walked with me to the mailbox the other day! She's going to think she's a person instead of a goat pretty soon. In case you were wondering, we're registered at D&B Supply and Target. (Just kidding! Ha, get it? Kidding! I crack myself up!)

Within Two Weeks...

You gott love this...two weeks ago we had snow...kinda hard to see in the picture. But we had a good amount of it. And last weekend it was in the 70's and Garrett decided to go swimming. We had drained the pool to clean it (yuck!) and as we filled it back up the boys had a blast. It still looks a bit "Pondy" here, but he enjoyed the warmth of the well water and the perfect weather. We're expecting 70 degree temps for the next 5 days and you'll hear no complaints from any of us!

A Project Finally Finished

I had to give Mom some public credit for her hard work! When she came to visit in November she helped me sand this buffet and hutch. Jeff and I had found this piece at Goodwill in Boise. It was maple but very beat up. We sanded for 3 hours and finally got it painted and the knobs on...so thanks Mom!!

I finally painted my home office and Garrett was so excited. I think I've warped my boys; they both get soo excited when I paint a room or rearrange furniture! At least I know they aren't too feminized; they still like to shoot things and play army!

You can see a bit of the newly painted office in the background. It's called Caraway (Behr, from HD) and it looks nothing like a caraway seed. But it's a great shade of green. Now I just need some more cabinets for storage and a few pictures on the wall!

We're on the Potty-Training Home Stretch

Well, some mothers may cringe...and Caleb certainly will one day...but I had to post this "potty" picture for the world to see. We could not go forward another day without commemorating one of life's, and motherhood's, most exciting feats-Potty Training! And now that I'm on the subject, why, pray tell, is it called potty training? What kind of person comes up with such an oxymoronic sounding phrase? Potty is such a mommy/toddler word and training sounds so military. How do you reconcile the two? So many questions tonight. I'm sorry. It must be all the bleach fumes I inhaled today in my crazy "my mom's coming tomorrow and I'm having people over to my house this weekend" frenzy. Please forgive me.
Now, what other events have I forgotten to blog in the past few weeks that I now have to do all in one night? (And no, I haven't been taking any drugs, though I do sound slightly manic. :))

Okay, this one is for Beth & Laura; my recipe swapping friends. I found this tomato bread recipe in my most favorite bread machine book and it was yummy! The picture does it no justice (sorry, Beth is the photographer in the family.) Not only that, but I was being lazy the day I made this and just let the bread machine bake it instead of making a "pretty" loaf. Garrett lost his first tooth a couple of weeks ago...here he is! He was so excited when he brought his little "tooth bag" home from school! And for those that want to know, he got $2 from the tooth fairy...I think inflation has hit her too!

Here's another picture from "Pumpkin Pickin' Day" showing our side pasture and some of the bounty! It was so fun to go out and hunt down the pumpkins. I didn't think we had very many until I looked under all the giant leaves of the plants. I was very pleasantly surprised!
